Heard from God lately? Richard Roberts believes God is always speaking to us, but the real question is, are we listening? God may be sharing secrets, giving us warnings, or whispering insights about our future. But in order to understand what He is saying to us, I believe we must train our ears to hear His voice. Fortunately, God has already revealed several ways He talks to us in His Word. Now it is up to us to listen and obey.
7 Ways God Can Speak to Us
The first and most common way God speaks to us is through His written Word. Second Timothy 3:16 NKJV tells us, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
The Word of God is the barometer by which we judge all other words. God is not going to tell us to do anything that contradicts His written Word. That’s why it’s so important to study it.
The second way God can speak to us is through the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4-11). Let me give you an example of this. My wife and I were thinking about purchasing a piece of land. It looked like a swamp, but we felt on the inside that we should buy it. During this time, my wife received a word of knowledge from the Lord, through someone she trusted, that confirmed what we were already feeling in our hearts. So we purchased the land, dug lakes, and built it up. Now that swampland is worth millions.
Another avenue the Lord can speak to us through is the five-fold ministry gifts of Ephesians 4:8-13—the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. Richard Roberts believes it’s important to keep your ears open to these servants of God.
